What Is a Combi Boiler?
A combi boiler provides both heating and hot water directly from the mains supply. This means there’s no need for a cold water tank in the loft or a hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard. The boiler heats water on demand, so you only use energy when you need hot water or heating.
Because of their space-saving design and efficient operation, combi boilers are especially popular in urban homes, apartments, and houses with 1–2 bathrooms.

Hera are the most important benefits of installing a combi boiler
Space
Saving
Combi boilers are compact and ideal for small to medium-sized homes. Many models can even fit inside a kitchen cupboard.
Instant
Hot Water
Unlike conventional boilers that store hot water in a tank, combi boilers heat water on demand, so there’s no waiting time.
High
Efficiency
Modern combi boilers are highly efficient — most models are A-rated for energy. This can lead to lower heating bills and a reduced carbon footprint.
Lower
Installation Costs
Since there’s no need for water tanks or extra pipework, installation is generally faster and less expensive than with system or regular boilers.
Less
Maintenance
With fewer parts and no external tanks, there’s less that can go wrong, meaning lower maintenance over the long term.
Mains
Water Pressure
You get hot water at mains pressure, which means stronger flow at taps and showers — especially if your home has good water pressure.

Combi Boiler Installations
Installing a combi boiler involves connecting the unit directly to the mains water supply and integrating it with your central heating system. Unlike conventional or system boilers, combi boilers don’t require a separate hot water cylinder or cold water storage tank. This makes the installation process more streamlined and efficient, with fewer components and pipework required. Because they heat water on demand, combi boilers are ideal for homes with limited space and a single or moderate hot water demand.

How Does a Combi Boiler Work?
A combi boiler is an all-in-one unit that heats your central heating and provides hot water on demand.
Here’s how it works in two modes:
- Heating Mode (Central Heating)
When your thermostat or timer tells the boiler to turn on the heating: The boiler's burner ignites and heats up the primary heat exchanger. This heat exchanger warms up water in a closed loop that flows through your radiators. The heated water circulates through your home’s radiator system, warming each room. Once the desired room temperature is reached, the boiler goes into standby until heat is needed again. - Hot Water Mode (Taps & Showers)
The boiler detects water flow through a flow sensor. It immediately diverts power from the heating to hot water mode. Cold mains water flows through a secondary heat exchanger, where it’s heated by the boiler.
Hot water flows straight to your tap or shower — instantly and continuously.
