Boiler installation day

What to expect in a boiler installation.

Wondering what to expect when your new boiler goes in? This is what our schedule looks like from the moment we arrive at your home. If you need us to adjust our timings, just let us know before we confirm the visit, and we’ll always aim to cause as little disruption to your day as possible.

A like-for-like boiler replacement usually takes a day. Moving the boiler or changing your system, for example from a regular boiler to a combi, takes longer, and we’ll tell you how long your installation is likely to take before the work is booked.

How to prepare

Getting your home ready for installation day.

Our engineers will need access to a few areas of your home on installation day. A little preparation beforehand keeps the job smooth and efficient.

Parking for our vans

We may need a couple of spaces outside your home for our vans. It’s always helpful if you can keep the driveway clear on the day.

Clear the kitchen

If your boiler is in the kitchen, that’s where we’ll do most of our work. Please clear the worktops around it and make sure we can get to the stopcock easily.

Airing cupboard and radiators

We’ll need to get to the airing cupboard and to every radiator in the house, so clear a little space around them if you can.

Loft tank and gas meter

Our engineers will also need access to the gas meter and, if you have one, the cold water tank in the loft.

Make room for our tools

Moving furniture and any valuables away from the boiler and the route to it gives us room to work and keeps your things safe.

Plan for no heating or hot water

You’ll be without heating and hot water for at least part of the installation, so plan showers and laundry around it. If the job runs longer, we can talk about temporary heating.

Installation day

What happens on the day.

01

We arrive and set up

We arrive bright and early to set up the van and check we have every tool and product needed. We’re flexible, so we can arrive at a time that suits you.

02

We knock on your door

At the time we’ve agreed, we knock on your door and let you know we’re here to start your boiler installation.

03

We protect your home

Before any tools come out, we protect your carpets, surfaces and valuables, then remove the old boiler and fit the new one.

04

We tidy up and talk you through it

We test the whole system, leave your home as tidy as we found it and talk you through everything you need to know about your new boiler.

The end of the day

Before we leave, we’ll hand everything over.

At the end of the day we tidy up and carry out a thorough handover. We’ll guide you through using your new boiler, demonstrate the key features, set up the controls and give you maintenance tips, so you’re left with a fully working boiler and the confidence to use it.

No deposit is needed up front. Once everything is complete and you’re happy with your new boiler, we invoice you, and payment is due within 7 days of receiving it.

[VERIFY WITH AMW — confirm the compliance certificate still arrives by post]

At the end of the day you’ll have:

Smell gas? Don’t use electrical switches or naked flames. Open windows, turn off the gas at the meter if you can, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

As a general guide, a like-for-like replacement usually takes a day, moving the boiler to a new location one to two days, and a system conversion, such as a regular boiler to a combi, two to three days. We’ll confirm the timings for your home before the work is booked.

Yes, for at least part of the installation, because the old boiler has to come out before the new one goes in. If the job runs over more than a day, we can talk about temporary heating.

Keep the driveway or a couple of parking spaces clear, clear the worktops around the boiler, and make sure we can reach the stopcock, gas meter, airing cupboard, loft tank and every radiator. Moving furniture and valuables out of the way helps too.

Someone will need to let us in at the agreed time and be there at the end of the day for the handover, so we can show you how your new boiler and controls work.

Yes. We’re flexible, so let us know if you need us to adjust our timings before we confirm the visit.

Once your boiler is installed, you can register it with Worcester Bosch to receive your guarantee certificate. An annual boiler service is usually needed to keep the guarantee valid.

Your Gas Safe Building Regulations compliance certificate is sent to you by post, confirming the installation has been notified and meets the regulations. Keep it safe: you may need it if you sell your home.

We don’t ask for a deposit. Once everything is complete and you’re happy with your new boiler, we send the invoice and payment is due within 7 days of you receiving it. Your boiler quote sets out the costs before any work is agreed.
